Privacy Policy

Effective Date: May 10, 2026

Data Safety Alliance (DSA) is a non-profit organization committed to protecting the privacy and data rights of the platform workers and citizens we serve. Our mission is to empower the "invisible workforce", including data labellers, delivery riders, cab drivers, and others, to reclaim their data rights and gain transparency into how their personal information is used.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you interact with our website.

1. Who We Are

Data Safety Alliance is a global collective dedicated to supporting platform workers in accessing their data and understanding the digital systems they power.

For the purposes of our current activities (providing information and training), we act as a Data Controller for the basic contact information you provide to us. Please note that we are currently in the process of formalizing our registration for broader data processing activities related to Subject Access Requests (SARs).

2. Information We Collect

We aim to minimize data collection to only what is necessary to support our mission. Currently, we only collect information that you voluntarily provide to us when you sign up or reach out via our website:

  • Identity Data: Your name.
  • Contact Data: Your email address.
  • Work/Industry Information: Information regarding the platform you work for (e.g., Uber, Meta, Telus, Appen) which helps us provide you with relevant tools and resources.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • Communication: To respond to your inquiries and provide the support you requested.
  • Updates & Newsletters: To keep you informed about our progress, new training modules, and developments in platform worker rights (only if you have opted in).
  • Community Building: To understand the demographics of our alliance to better tailor our resources for specific worker groups (e.g., delivery riders vs. data labelers).

4. Legal Basis for Processing

Under data protection laws (such as the GDPR), we process your data based on your Consent. By providing your name and email through our "Sign Up" or "Reach Out" forms, you are giving us permission to contact you regarding our mission and resources. You may withdraw this consent at any time.

5. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. We will only share your data if:

  • It is required by law.
  • It is necessary to protect our legal rights.
  • We use a trusted service provider (e.g., an email delivery service) strictly to facilitate our communication with you. These providers are bound by confidentiality agreements.

6. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. As an organization focused on "Data Safety," we treat your information with the highest level of care.

7. Data Retention

We will only keep your personal information for as long as it is necessary for the purposes set out in this policy, or until you request that we delete your data.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you have the following rights regarding your data:

  • Access: The right to request a copy of the data we hold about you.
  • Correction: The right to ask us to correct inaccurate information.
  • Erasure: The right to request that we delete your data.
  • Withdrawal of Consent: The right to opt-out of our communications at any time.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at the email address provided below.

9. Future Processing (Subject Access Requests)

The Data Safety Alliance is currently working toward helping workers facilitate Subject Access Requests (SARs). Once we begin this phase of our mission, we will update this Privacy Policy to reflect the handling of more sensitive data and our formal status as a registered Data Controller for those specific processes. We do not currently store or process platform data on behalf of workers. We show you the way to go about this process.
